The New Feminist: Liberators or Captors

Feminism might be one of the curses the new generation has incurred on itself. Maybe not the feminism in itself, as in its meaning, which is the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes, or equity as per the demand is now, but the radicalism and fanatism of the new age of so called feminist.

The heroines in history are truly the unsung Heroes and sage of feminism, when the society was really patriarchal, and the women where just chestfeeders, housekeepers, cooks, cleaners, birthing-people, among many other derogatory words you can find in the new world order of grammatical construction. There is more to us now, and we really won’t be able to quantify, the effort, the fight, the war, the battle, the true feminist fought before we got here. There’s a goal, there was a mission, maybe the visioniers didn’t write it clearly for those who wants to run with, hence why the Cause has lost its values.

What are today's feminists trying to achieve? Are there still unfair situations happening? Or maybe we're not clear on what's truly important versus what we simply want. It might be useful to think about what economist Lionel Robbins said – that human wants are insatiable.

The main traditional role of women (which can be different depending on culture and tradition) should not be overlooked or transferred to men. It's a role somewhat determined by nature and instinct. Otherwise, we might end up with a disorderly generation, much like the one we're in now.

There’s a saying, that states “Tough times create strong Men, strong men create good times, good times creates weak men, weak men create tough times” in which people of great minds agrees with. With our current predicament as a woman, what time would you say we are? And base on your answer what do you think we are going to create?

The equality we are think we are fighting for, is a cause without goals. Why would we ever compare two different things with each other, I mean two different things with different functions can never be equal. I know you might disagree with this notion but science and different studies including data, has shown that men and women are wired differently! Emotionally, psychologically, physically, scientifically – one is XY the other is XX, Among many other things.

It is never that there isn’t some injustice that women face that aren’t because of the fact that our society is patriarchal oriented. The notion is to truly acknowledge that the cause might has lost its way because there is no anchor. Who are the true face of feminism now? But I will gladly state our past heroine, who despite the amount of misogyny and patriarchy at the time still achieve their goal and made impact in history for themselves.

Allow us discuss Efunsetan Aniwura, a historical figure (with close ties to my cultural heritage). She exhibited a formidable strength akin to that of a monarch, yet was subjected to attempts on her life due to her considerable wealth and influence. Despite enduring persecution rooted in her childlessness, she not only managed to endure but also thrived and maintained her prominence within her domain.

How about the great queen Amina of Zauzau, even before the British in all there forward thinking still relegates women to the background, one to be seen and not be heard in the 15th – 16th century, she became the queen, ruling valiantly, while she conquered territories, and never was it recorded that she lost a battle as she led over 30,000 men in her campaigns, in her 34-years rule as the queen of the then great kingdom of Zauzau

What do we say about Funmilayo Ransome kuti, these are heroes that continues to inspire even in death, among many other?

Feminism has never meant women should ignore their main roles, nor does it involve belittling women who find fulfillment in those roles. It's not just about women succeeding in their chosen careers; it has always been about paving the way for the next generation. It’s not about career women achieving their niche in chosen field alone, it’s has always been about the next generation, creating and equitable and sustainable environment to thrive. There is a need to regroup, sit, set the new goal straight, write out the vision, for the next generation to have a starting point, let’s put a face to it, no digressing to unnecessary things, fulfilling purpose and setting a level playing ground for generation unborn, and also let the primary role be fulfilled gallantly, and let’s take pride and dignity in what divine providence as made woman to be.
