WCW; Mama Janet Ekundayo - Called to Serve Humanity

1.

Mama Janet Ekundayo, a Kogi woman, dedicated her life to caring for orphans and abandoned children. Her name, Ekundayo, in the Yoruba language of West Africa, translates to 'tears turned to joy' or 'my tears have turned to joy.' She is often likened to Mother Teresa for her unwavering commitment to the welfare of orphans and marginalized children in society.

Despite being a mother to five children of her own, Mama Ekundayo's love for children knew no bounds, and she adopted many more. Her affinity for the company of little ones made caring for them a natural calling.

In 1969, Mama Ekundayo made a resolute decision to devote the remainder of her life to the care of orphans and abandoned children. For over half a century, she operated the Ekundayo Orphanage Home in Isanlu Makutu, Kogi State, solidifying her reputation as one of the most influential women in Kogi's history.

Among her wards, not bound by blood, is the renowned Nigerian singer and photographer TY Bello. Mama Janet Ekundayo's incredible work remained relatively unknown to the wider public until TY Bello honored her in a video and produced a song titled "Ekundayo" featuring Olufunmi in 2008. The song was part of TY Bello's well-received album, "Greenland." Mama Ekundayo's selfless dedication to nurturing and sheltering children has left an indelible mark on her community and beyond.
